Here' the second of my designs that I've recently painted to reflect more what I had in mind while drawing it. It needed to be HOT. This definitely feels warmer.
It's funny, seeing my work in a sort of sequence makes me realize that I was definitely in a "warm" mood for a while. I'll have to switch it up a bit...
Well, I have to say... For a guy who's made his career doing Location Design and Layout I am thoroughly enjoying my foray into Characters. This guy's a part of an idea that's been in my head for a bit and I've been meaning to finish him for a while, but couldn't quite decide when he was done. I really want to throw a BG behind him, but I'd rather focus on some more character stuff for now. Maybe later.
More to come...
So, continuing in the vein of painting some of the locations I designed for Jimmy, here's my coloured version of the Miseryville Meadow . I don't remember the episode it was originally in, but overall I'm happy with the warmth and simplicity of it.
Often when I do the line art for a given production I have a vision in my head of what I would love to do with the colour. Usually it goes off to a colour stylist to paint and it comes back well done, but rarely how I pictured it.
I decided a while back to sit down and tackle some of these designs and paint them how I originally envisioned them.
This is the first re-work from a while ago from Gerald McBoing-Boing. Season One I think...
Here are a couple of rough designs I did for Jimmy Two-Shoes. Thanks to Kyle for the sketch of Lucy for the Misery Emporium location.
Those in the know will catch the homage to some early Jimmy designs by Steve Lambe in the Creepy Old House design. I had a great time doing the Locations on this project and I am dying to paint some of these bad boys.
Soon...
Alright, so most of the last year has been spent working on and lovingly caressing Jimmy Two-Shoes. Created by Sean Scott, and slaved over by countless fantastic animators and artists. Of course my input was on the Design front and I was lucky enough to be joined by the beautifully moustachioed Kyle Marshall and Darren Ward. (...Only Kyle had a moustache though.) Check out their Blogs BTW. Now, location design is creative enough on it's own, but thanks to the persistence of Sean Scott and Jeff Barker I was able to dabble and later jump right into the colour end of things. I owe a lot to them. Any way, enough blather. Needless to say it was a very satisfying experience. Here are some colour thumbs I did during pre-production...
Here's a batch of location sketches I did for a show called "Weird Years". The design was a lot of fun, but unfortunately some the life didn't carry over into the final product.
...I kinda miss the mess of working on paper.
This is my first attempt at an Illustrator character that I did for an idea that didn't quite pan out. I like the guy, the idea fizzled though.
So I'll start at the beginning I guess... Well, near the beginning any way. These are a couple of water colour sketches I did years ago now.
I still like 'em.
